This week is like a madness before the vacation (we leave this Friday to Cape Cod for like 10 days! yay!) trying to finish lots of stuff…
Just wanted to pop in and say hi! I printed something with my new (old) Golding Pearl yesterday, hope to share the final products soon… :) xo Hijiri
I printed this a while ago for Jack & Deanne who got married on June 5th this year — they wanted a memorable piece with the lace heart for their wedding and also for the keepsake, I was so happy to be able to create a custom print for them — and it came out so great!
Wood type set and adjusting placement and impression…
Always make sure with the compute mock up for spelling, placement etc.
It’s ready for inking — their wedding colors were red and pink — pink ink here for the names and the dates:
Now, printing the lace heart… (I could print this first, but due to the ink on the press, this way made sense at that time. Being flexible is a big part of letterpress printing, I think!)

How was your 4th of July weekend?! Good, I hope! Heartfish Press welcomed a new (old) press on Sunday! Meet the Golding Pearl Old Style No. 3 — made in 1902! Dan at the Arm Letterpress had been restoring it for me and finally she was ready to move into my studio.
The Pearl can be moved in pieces so that made the move a lot easier… but to lift the top part, 2-3 guys hands are required…
Everything is in the van and ready to go…
and when we came to my studio, Dan put them all back together (THANK YOU SO MUCH!) and there she is! Sitting right next to me right now :)
Ohhh that heart-shaped treadle… melts my heart every time — now, everyday! Can’t wait to print with her!

Bluemoon Letterpress in Japan is organizing an earthquake fundraiser letterpress exhibition called “Letterpress of Pray” at BOOKS KUBRICK gallery in Fukuoka this summer and Heartfish Press is more than proud and honored to be a part!
They are still looking for more letterpress work for the gallery, if you are interested, please visit their page and participate. Japan still needs our support!
Your letterpress work will be displayed and viewed by many Japanese people. It’s ok that if you made it before. It’s better that the letterpress has message for Japan. If you could also include few extra, people can purchase them and 100% of the proceeds from this exhibition will go directly to earthquake child support group in Iwate prefecture (Concerning the establishment of a fund for the financial aid of the earthquake and tsunami orphans.).
