DIY Event with Marimekko

Tonight is the Fashion’s Night Out! There are soo many awesome events happening throughout NY and other cities all over the country, are you planning to attend any? I experienced the FNO last 2 years and I know how crazy it gets, I’m not sure if I could go this year with 36 weeks pregnant belly… but this DIY event with Marimekko at the Crate and Barrel on Madison Avenue sounds so fun that I wanted to share!

…to create a custom necklace made from the bold color and pattern of Marimekko fabric as you enjoy music and refreshments.

I guess DUMBO is having lots of events tonight also, I might stop by few since it’s right here in my neighborhood… What are your plans? :)

Babyprint Keepsake

I’ve been wanted to get this babyprints keepsake ever since I saw one at Paper Source — I was just in the neighborhood yesterday and finally picked up not only one, but two for our baby :) One for her hand, one for her feet. Great baby shower gifts, too!

It’s true, it’s getting really close to welcome our baby, we are so excited!

Baby Crochet Project

While I was on vacation, I started a little crochet project for our little baby… :) I got this crochet pattern book at Kinokuniya a while ago, I’m trying to make the dress on the cover in white… we’ll see how it’ll turn out!

DIY: Flower Arrangement

I did a very easy flower arrangement for the shower :) Just by using 2 stems of white hydrangeas & 2 stems of pink gerbera daisies (they are two of my favorites! and our wedding flowers, too) — came out so cute, I was so happy (and still happy to look at today)!! All you do is to cut them to the length of the base and make them shape rounder, which is easy since both of them already have the shape.

I made 3 of these and placed on bar table, food table and desert table.

and I placed 2 stems of pink gerbera daisies in a simple tall glass base in the bathroom for an extra touch :)

I love having flowers around the house, I should do that more often!

Hey Yo Yo

Yesterday was our baby shower day! Aww it was soo fun. I want to do it again and again :P We had it here in our loft apartment with our lovely friends’ help (THANK YOU SO MUCH, Mio & Masa!!), it was nothing traditional, coed brunch party just like we wanted :)

I ordered these cute cupcake liners, baking cups and paper bags (aw, the paper bags didn’t get to use, but will be used later!) from Hey Yo Yo — great party supplies shop on etsy! I visited their shop many times prior and wanted to get each one of them, they are all just so cute and fun, makes me want to throw a party all the time!

If you are planning on even a little get together, I would suggest just looking at their shop to get an idea or purchase something fun for your special/non-special occasion :)

DIY: Pompoms From Cupcake Liners

When I saw this image below on Design*Sponge last week, I was all over it. So cute, fun and oh my god, it’s made out of cupcake liners and I can make one, too?! (see the whole post for direction on how to make one) I immediately bookmarked thinking I’m going to make this someday… someday really soon… (hint to myself: my birthday is coming up next month.)

and then, I found these really cute cupcake liners on HeyYoYo shop (great shop by the way, you get inspired by looking at everything there!) — now I am seriously obsessed.

These will be great on weddings, baby showers, birthdays… any parties! :) Do you know of anywhere I can get more lovely cupcake liners? If so, let me know! xo Hijiri

Crafting a Meaningful Home

Randy got me this book called Crafting a Meaningful Home by lovely Meg Mateo Ilasco for Christmas along with many other things (thank you, love!) and I had to share how great it is! I am so very inspired and I think one of my new year resolutions will be to make something for our home :) The book tells you and shows you each story and project (27 of them!) and they are all so personal, touching and meaningful, just reading their stories is inspiring, but also you can make your own, too!

Happy Halloween Weekend!

Wishing you all a happy and safe Halloween this weekend! I’m actually taking a letterpress workshop at the Center for the Book Arts (can’t wait!) all weekend so I’m not sure how much Halloween stuff I could do this year… and Maia will have to rock out her witch costume from last year again this year… (sorry, mama has been so busy!)

I wanted to leave you with this great DIY — Thompson Family-Life Fabric Pumpkin Tutorial. Aren’t they so lovely? Not so spooky for Halloween, though, once you make it, you can have it around throughout October and November until Thanksgiving time :) I have so many little pieces of fabrics, this is great for that, too.

Paint Job

It’s been 7 weeks since we moved to our new loft and things are coming together slowly, but surely. I think our kitchen and dining area are now really close to complete, I’d like to add some more things still, but I thought I would start sharing things finally — starting with some paint job I did…

Over the Memorial day weekend, I painted these little things for our kitchen and dining area…

A wine rack from Ikea:

A little corner shelf I bought in Japan:

In yellow! Ever since I had the yellow wall in my old kitchen, I am obsessed with yellow, bright and cheery kitchen. Our new kitchen is white so I decided to do spots of bright colors.

**The letter A is a local flea market find, I’m hoping to find letter E and letter T so someday, it’ll say “EAT” and probably “DRINK” too :) **

They are actually really cute in where they are, I am so happy that I painted them!
